It’s the same story every summer. I NEED a new pair of sandals. Well, I suppose I don’t really “need” them so much as want them. That being said, because new sandals are not high on the budget priority list, I usually wind up with a pair that cost me $10 or less, hence why I want / need a new pair every year.

The first time out the door and 10 steps towards where-ever you are going, usually result in a blister of some kind or another. Then they get thrown into the back of the closet and my trusty old flip flops come back out. You know the ones I’m talking about. Soles worn so thin you can almost see right through them and your foot print beautifully etched out in multiple summers worth of dirt and sand. They aren’t pretty (anymore) but they do the trick.

3shoes

That is until you get a look at these sandals from Flurries! I was given the opportunity to pick out a pair of sandals to review. Needless to say that took me 3 days! They have so many beautiful colours and styles available, it was hard for me to decide.

I was finally able to settle on the Flurries Tulips Sandals, in black. It seemed fitting with a garden full of tulips in bloom at the side of our house 🙂 I love tulips. They are one of my favourite flowers.

But since the official start to summer is just around the corner and SaveaLoonie.com celebrated our 2nd Birthday on May 18th, we have teamed up with Flurries to bring you an AMAZING new Giveaway! It is one of our biggest yet! But before we get to all that fun stuff, why not take a minute and read about my experience with Flurries Tulips Sandals.

Design

These sandals are gorgeous. Really. I mean gorgeous! They are incredibly versatile and could work easily with almost any summer outfit. They pair well with skinny jeans and a blouse, capris and a tank or a little black dress.

I also love these sandals because they are the perfect cross between a wedge and a flat. It makes them suitable for everyday work and errands as well as business meetings and formal events.

I do have one, kinda big / kinda small issue with my sandals though, and that is the placement of the toe strap. I know it may sound like a trivial thing, but it is more difficult than you may think to walk in sandals when the toe piece doesn’t fit right.

toe-piece

It’s not that it is too short or too long, it is that it is placed to far forward for my foot. It could just be my toes (I have giant size 10 feet!) but when I slip my foot in, the toe piece that I usually like resting right in between my toes is about 2cm too far forward. For me, this means I’m finding myself jamming my foot forward so that the strap is catching properly and my foot doesn’t slide out. Does that make sense? I hope so LOL

The more I wear the sandals the more used to it I seem to get and less of a problem it is becoming. I love my Flurries Tulips and I am willing to put some work into making them love me back!

Durability

Flurries sandals are made from high quality materials to ensure the best possible shoe. The upper soles are made with a Cork Latex which help the shoe quickly conform to the shape of your foot and support your foot structure. The genuine leather straps mean these shoes are built for the long haul. You won’t have to worry about blisters, back pain or straps snapping for many years.

As with anything though, proper care must be taken with the cork and the leather to ensure it stays protected.

Does It Work?

outside

Absolutely. Well, if you discount the toe thing.

I’ve worn my Flurries out for breakfast with a colleague, walking the dogs, puttering around in the yard, shopping and pretty much everywhere. Like I said, I love them and they go with basically any outfit 🙂

Dollar Value

Here is where I suffer from some SERIOUS sticker shock. I’m frugal – to the core. I DON’T buy myself clothes or shoes unless they are on sale or on clearance. I can honestly say, I can count the number of clothing items I’ve purchased that cost more than $100 in my lifetime, on my hands. I just can’t justify it when there are so many other, more important things, to spend money on.

tulips

Get ready for this. Flurries Tulips sandals retail for $161.95 CDN. Ouch. But wait. It’s not really that bad if you think about it logically and mathematically. I must mention also, the Tulips are Flurries most expensive sandal at this time. They are the top of the line.

Let’s go back to that new pair of sandals you buy every spring / summer. What do you pay for those? Around $10 – $20, right. You basically only get 1 summer (2 if you’re lucky).

Now we go back to the Flurries. These sandals will last you YEARS. No more $10 or $20 a year wasted for I would guess (with proper care) at least 5 years if not more. That’s $100 or more saved right there. Plus, consider the sheer comfort and beauty of these sandals and it is so close to being justifiable. They are most definitely an investment piece. However, as I mentioned before, the Tulips are the most expensive sandals Flurries carries. They have more affordable (and still GORGEOUS) sandals priced as low as $73.99.

All that being said, Flurries has very kindly offered to give 3 Lucky SaveaLoonians their own pair of Flurries Tulips Sandals! Plus, we also have 20 Pink SaveaLoonie Totes to give away too!
