Good Morning SaveaLoonians!
On January 13th, we posted about a Free Caprina Soap Sampler. The offer was a HUGE HIT! Thousands of you flocked to our site, and then onto Caprina to join the Caprina Wellness Program.
Unfortunately, just a few days later, Caprina sent out emails retracting their offer and offering a 15% off promo code instead.
I got such an email in my personal account but we also received another email, this one from a representative of CANUS.
She explained that this offer was never intended to reach “a mass public” and that we posted this offer without authorization or consent. While this is true, as a rule, we don’t contact companies and ask permission to post their coupons/samples/contests. Most times, these companies take days to respond to emails. If we did – the samples would be gone before we got a response.
This rep asked that we remove the offer from our website, Facebook & Twitter (which we’ve done) and also to explain to all of you that we “shared this promotion, as an oversight, and did not consult with CANUS to verify whether there would be enough stock available to sustain it”.
I requested the samples before I posted the offer, so it would appear that they were gone before we ever saw the request form. And as a result, it would stand to reason that everyone who requested after me, will also not get one. Sorry. 🙁
The rep went on to further explain “The perception seems to be that the Caprina soap offer was meant to deceive the public and capture their information. This campaign was meant to sample the product and in no way did we want to upset anyone.”
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened, and I’m sure it won’t be the last.
So while it would appear not many people will be getting their free soap, I ask that you not hate on this company. I genuinely don’t feel like they were out to steal your info (although in effect they now have all that information without actually having to send out samples or pay for advertising!) nor do I feel like this was any sort of scam. It was nothing more than a poorly planned and executed promotion. It’s just a shame the companies never seem to want to own up to it and instead blame the freebie sites for the overwhelming response.
Did you get the sample retraction email or are you one of the lucky ones who may still get theirs? Let us know on the SaveaLoonie Facebook Page!
