Bakers beware – there is another recall that you should know about.
Linked to the Ardent Flour Recall in recent weeks, Harlan Bakeries is now recalling a variety of tart & pie shells.
The CFIA has recalled various brands of pie & tart shells from the market due to a possible E.Coli contamination. It is not safe to taste or eat raw dough or batter regardless of the type of flour used, as raw flour can be contaminated with harmful bacteria such as E. coli O121. Food contaminated with E. coli O121 may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps and watery to bloody diarrhea. In severe cases of illness, some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions and kidney dialysis or live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

There have been reported illness associated with flour; however at this time, no confirmed illness associated with the products in this recall.
If you have the affected product in your home, do not consume it. Instead, throw it out or return it to the store it was purchased.
