I’ve said it before and I will say it again – I LOVE PINTEREST!!!

I’ve been busy pinning ideas for weeks and I finally was able to do one of the projects that I had been most excited about! I pinned a post from CleverlyInspired.com over 8 weeks ago and have been dying to make these beautiful bottles! They were actually the inspiration for my whole mantel this year.

My project was slightly different – the original blogger used 3 bottles as a centre piece – I used 4 and put them on my mantle. I used 2 big bottles and 2 smaller bottles to offset. It was a super easy (albeit slightly messy) craft and it turned out so great. I was in the garage for this one – I don’t trust myself with spray paint and spray adhesive enough in the house! If you want to try this too  I would STRONGLY recommend you do too!

SUPPLIES:

As many wine bottles as you need (size and shape entirely up to you) – FREE (from family)
White spray paint / primer – FREE (had it at home)
Spray adhesive – $6.99 at Canadian Tire (Used Canadian Tire Money so FREE)
Epsom Salts – $1 at Dollarama
Glittery pics – $1 each at Dollarama ($8 total)

I have plans for a couple more bottles so I decided to start by peeling the labels off the bottles. This proved to be more of a challenge than originally anticipated! I tried soaking them for the night but the labels just wouldn’t come off so I asked you for help. I got all kinds of responses so I decided to try a few of them and see which worked best!

I used nail polish remover, peanut butter, canola oil, boiling water inside the bottle and rubbing alcohol (would’ve tried GOO Gone too but didn’t want to run out and buy it). I didn’t really find much of a difference in any of the methods, they all worked but all needed a bit of elbow grease too. If you are just going to do this craft with your bottles, I would say it is probably not even necessary to remove the labels. They just get covered anyways.

After I just used a white Spray Paint + Primer to give the bottles a couple coats. They needed to sit for a couple of hours before they were dry enough for the next step.

After the bottles are dry, pour the Epsom Salts into a tray or something big enough to roll your bottles in.

Coat the area that you wish cover with the spray adhesive. Then quickly roll them in the Epsom Salts.

I found I got a more even coating if I rolled the bottles and Ryan poured more over top at the same time.

After I coated the bottles, I brought them inside and let them dry for another 30 minutes or so. During this time, some of the excess salts fall off so it’s wise to set them on cardboard or newspaper – something easy to clean up.

Once the bottles were done, I simply stuck 2 glittery pics from Dollarama into each bottle.

I absolutely love the way they twinkle from the lights on the mantle. It looks like a snow covered vase – the pictures really don’t do them any justice.

Have you done this craft or any others involving wine bottles or Epsom Salts? Please share in the comments below!
