The only way to be certain what is or isn’t allowed when it comes to couponing is to know your store’s coupon policy. Due to the high turnover of cashiers in the retail market many of them are unaware of these policies. In the event of a “coupon in question” you don’t want to be leaving the store without a great deal.

You can never have too much information or knowledge and it is better to be over-prepared then left scrambling. Read over the policy carefully, you want to be certain you are understanding everything. If you are unsure about some wording, speak with a Customer Service Manager for clarification.

When you shop with coupons we suggest ALWAYS carrying a copy of your store policies with you. In the event of a dispute over a coupon, you want to be able to defend your purchase with proof. If you are confident that a coupon you are using is valid, then stand up for yourself. Don’t just accept no as an answer, in the most polite way possible of course. If a cashier refuses a coupon you believe should be accepted, ask to speak with a customer service manager.

This is when having a copy of the coupon policy is very handy. If you have something in writing to defend your point, it is more likely your purchase will be allowed. If the CSM is still not allowing your purchase, ask to speak to a store manager. As a paying customer you have every right to do this and you should not feel as though you are inconveniencing anyone.

In the event you exhaust every level at the store and you are still being refused contact the company head office. If you believe you should not have been refused and were, they can either clarify your mistake or the stores’.

Our customers can use a maximum of one manufacturer coupon and one competitor’s coupon per item purchased.

7. Will you allow overage if the value of the coupon is higher than the price of the product being purchased?

We do not allow overage if the value of the coupon is higher than the price of the product. If the coupon exceeds the value of the product, the customer will receive the product for free, but will not receive any additional money.

8. Is there any type of coupon that you exclude? (ex. BOGO, Free Product)

The only coupons we exclude are coupons for products we do not carry. These coupons are not transferable to a different brand.

Our coupon acceptance practices are designed to help extend more savings to our customers while ensuring we continue to offer an exceptional customer service experience to everyone in our stores.

Rules for manufacturer issued coupons:

  • present your coupon at the time of purchase
  • ensure all conditions stated on the coupon are met (product to purchase, size, flavour, quantity, etc.)
  • ensure your coupon has a Canadian address
  • ensure your coupon is redeemed prior to the expiration date
  • if printed from the internet, your coupon is legible
  • ensure your coupon is not a photocopy
  • ensure your coupon is not issued by one of our competitors
  • ensure your coupon is not a mail-in rebate
  • Stacking is permitted

Each coupon applied to one item, must have a different UPC

Effective Sept 20, 2013 Procter & Gamble Inc. (P&G) vendor coupons can no longer be stacked, even if they have different UPCs

  • The value of the coupon(s) can slightly exceed the item price at managers discretion

Guidelines for high volume coupon redeemers:

  • More Rewards Card must be scanned at the beginning of the order so cashiers know the actual selling price of each item
  • Please call ahead to ensure we have adequate team members available on our front end at the time you plan to shop so that we can accommodate your needs while providing great service to our other customers.
  • At checkout, please ensure that coupons are placed with each item to speed up the coupon validation and checkout process.
  • If you hope to purchase large quantities of individual items, please provide 2 – 3 days notice to your local store manager so we can properly manage inventory requirements
  • Please note that we reserve the right to limit quantities purchased based on inventory available for all customers.
  • Please note that we will not accept large quantities of multiple coupons during any special promotional days. For more information, please see the store manager.

Store issued coupons:  store coupons are distributed through flyers, email, in-store kiosks, social media and direct mail.

No. Future Shop does not price match “free gift with purchase” orders.

How do Shipping and EHFs impact my price?
Shipping charges and EHFs are included in determining the final price used for a Price Beat. For example, if a competitor’s price was $10 cheaper than ours, but charged $25 for delivery while we charged no fee, the competitor’s price will be higher and therefore not eligible for a Price Beat.

It is the responsibility of the retailers to follow the offer and restrictions printed on the coupons in order to have the coupon redeemed. There are a few key restrictions to be aware of:

  • The amount of the coupon. This is the maximum amount that coupon can be redeemed for
  • Expiry date has not been exceeded
  • Is redeemable in Canada(has a Canadian Clearing House mailing address)
  • The product named on the coupon has been purchased
  • The size and/or flavour of the item, as stated on the coupon, have been purchased
  • The required number of items has been purchased
  • If a coupon states it cannot be used or combined with any other coupon offer, then that coupon cannot be used with other coupons.
  • Only one coupon per purchase. This means only one of this exact type of coupons can be used. (multiple coupons can be used as long as they are all different)
  • Taxes: see question below tax wording

London Drugs staff take pride in providing a superior shopping experience everyday – and it may be necessary to book an appointment for dedicated time to allow for proper processing of each coupon in the transaction. For this reason, it may be smart to contact your chosen store in advance for an appointment. Most coupon stacking education sites expressly recommend working with the store staff to ensure the transaction does not impact lineups.

We have a right as a retailer to limit quantities, especially if we suspect the product is being purchased for resale. We require any customer with the intention of purchasing large amount of products, work with the store to pre-order product in advance. Should we continually be driven to out of stocks, it could jeopardize our ability to continue with coupon stacking.

  1. Will London Drugs price match products and then accept stacks of coupons?
    Yes. When purchasing identical products, our price match policy is distinct from the coupon policy.
  2. Does LD allow the total of all the coupons stacked to exceed the value of the product?
    No, the coupons total value cannot exceed the value of the product. For example, if the customer presents 3 coupons that are $2.50each ($7.50) and the product is $6.00, the last coupon would be processed through the till as $1.00 (not to exceed $6.00).
  3. When an item is Buy 1, Get 1 free can coupons be used for the purchased item and additional coupons used on the free item?
    No. The coupons can only be used on the first item as there must be a purchase in order to use coupons. As an offer already exists to get the second item free, no further coupons are required or can be accepted.
  4. Are there times when a customer coupon stacking privilege can be revoked at London Drugs?
    Yes. If we are aware that a customer is buying large quantities of products frequently for re-sale, this should not be allowed. London Drugs is a retailer, not a wholesaler. Coupons are not intended to be used for large scale frequent wholesaling practices. The store manager will revoke coupon staking privileges for anyone buying product frequently for resale.
  5. Internet coupons printed at home are becoming more popular. The coupon sometimes is smudged or illegible, will you still accept them?
    No. We must be able to read and follow the eligibility and restrictions set out by the coupon. If we cannot verify the restrictions, or are uncertain of the coupons validity, then it cannot be accepted.
  6. Will you accept a U.S. coupon or coupons in US funds if it was issued in the US?
    No. We can only accept valid Canadian based coupons. The only exception would be a US coupon that indicates it is valid in Canada. The coupon must still have a Canadian Clearing House mailing address.

Our coupon policy is in place to help extend savings to our customers.

Due to unfortunate circumstances we are forced to announce a change to our approach of certain coupon stacking programs. This change will affect the pre-ordering of mass quantities of products and the use of mass cut coupons for all of our vendors for the purpose of coupon stacking. In addition, London Drugs has been advised by SC Johnson Company, that no SC Johnson coupon can be combined or stacked with any other coupon, regardless of the wording on the back of their coupons. Unfortunately, both of these areas are impacted due to increasing abuse which cannot be supported, and negatively affects all customers.

Pre-Ordering of Merchandise

Effective immediately, with those products where coupon stacking is permitted, London Drugs stores will only sell shelf quantities of product for the purposes of coupon stacking. As is a longstanding policy, we have always reserved the right to limit quantities and this will be enforced.

We have had increasing pressure from an ever widening number of coupon stackers to pre-order large quantities of products expressly for the purpose of coupon stacking. The requests are not modest: increasingly these order are for cases and half pallet or pallet quantities of merchandise. On top of this, it has been reported that increasingly these large quantities are used for resale, and not for personal consumption.

The manufacturers and London Drugs cannot support this excessive ordering of large quantities, as this is not what coupons were ever intended to provide for customers, and jeopardizes London Drugs ability to get reimbursed for coupons, causing potentially large financial losses for both London Drugs and its suppliers.

SC Johnson Company coupons

London Drugs has been advised by SC Johnson Company, that no SC Johnson coupon can be combined or stacked with any other coupon, regardless of the wording on the back of their coupons. London Drugs attempted to work with the legal counsel representing SC Johnson to alter their wording on their coupons as many other companies have done. Unfortunately, they have made a unilateral decision that because the abuse of coupon stacking has become too widespread on their products, they will not continue to reimburse London Drugs for any coupon they deemed was stacked.

London Drugs is very sorry that these practices have had to change. As one of the very few retailers that have allowed and supported coupon stacking, we’ve worked hard with coupon stacking forums and organizations to make policies clear, and prevent abuse. Despite this approach, the widening abuse has caused these changes in approach. It’s frustrating for London Drugs and the coupon customers who have worked responsibly to maintain the practice to date.

Definition of Terms

% OFF Coupons: Coupons that offer a % off the retail price of a product.

Cash Discount Coupons: Coupons that offer a specific dollar amount off when you purchase a specified number of items or when your total purchase equals a specified amount. For example $1 OFF when you purchase 2 or Spend $50 and receive $5 OFF.

Coupon Stacking: using more than one coupon on a single item. Usually it is a store coupon along with a manufacturer’s coupon for the same item or using more than one internet coupon for the same item.

Double Coupons: Value of the coupon is doubled. For example a $1 OFF coupon will become $2 OFF.

Internet Coupons: A coupon that can be printed online.

Manufacturer Coupon: A coupon offered by the manufacturer of a product that can be used in any store where that product is sold.

Mobile Coupons: Coupons presented on handheld mobile devices or smart phones (iPhones, Blackberries, etc.)

Pharmasave or in-store coupon: A coupon published by Pharmasave that can only be used in a Pharmasave store.

Coupon Policy

 1. We will redeem coupons only for the specific items included in our customer’s purchase transaction.

The redemption value will be as stated on the coupon, unless that value yields a final price for such item less than zero; if application of the redemption value yields a price less than zero, the coupon will be redeemed only for the amount that yields a zero price (our customer cannot net a cash credit or payout from a coupon purchase).

2. Paper coupons must be presented at the time of the purchase transaction. We will accept only coupons issued by Pharmasave or the manufacturer of the relevant product. We will not accept photocopies of coupons.

3. Coupons are subject to advertised offer limitations and all other limitations and restrictions on the applicable coupon or product.

4. Coupons may not be applied against any free item received in any offer.

5. Coupons have no cash value.

6. Cash discount coupons (excluding manufacturers’ coupons) applied to the total purchase cannot be combined with any other discount offer, including but not limited to promotions such as Seniors Day.

7. Pharmasave will not accept manufacturer coupons (including, but not limited to, coupons issued through an in-store coupon dispenser) that display another retailer’s logo or name.

8. We will not accept coupons unless they have an expiration date. Expired coupons will not be accepted.

9. We will not accept coupons that, in the determination of Pharmasave personnel, appear distorted or blurry or are altered in any way.

10. Sales taxes will be applied in accordance with the law of the applicable province, regardless of any coupon or other discount that may apply to the purchase transaction (refer to Coupons, Discounts & No Charge Product Consumer Tax Implications information).

11. All applicable bottle or packaging deposits and enviro levies on the purchased and free items must be paid by the customer.

12. Pharmasave reserves the right to refuse any coupons at its discretion and/or limit the number of coupons redeemed in any one transaction.

13. 15. Internet printed coupons must have serial numbers and must follow an industry-standard format.

16. Manufacturer internet printed coupons must clearly indicate that they are a manufacturer coupon and must have a Canadian redemption or clearing house address on the printed coupon.

17. Pharmasave does not yet have the ability to accept mobile coupons presented on handheld mobile devices or smart phones (iPhones, Blackberries, etc.)

18. Pharmasave does not allow doubling of coupons unless advertised at participating locations.

19. More than one coupon may be accepted for an item as long as it is both a manufacturer coupon and an in-store coupon; however the combined value cannot exceed the retail price. We cannot accept two manufacturers or two store coupons on the same item.

2.0 Guidelines

2.1 The item being purchased must conform to the product details on the coupon including size, brand, quantity, co-purchased item etc.

2.3 The expiry date must be valid.

2.4 The coupon must be presented at time of purchase.

2.6 Coupons have no cash value.

2.11Photocopies are not accepted.

2.12 Coupons are void if they appear distorted or blurry.

Load to Card Club Coupons:

Internet and digital coupons that have been electronically loaded to a Safeway Club Card are automatically redeemed at the time of purchase after the club card number has been entered. All other coupon policies above apply to electronic coupons that are loaded to a club card.

Doubling of Coupons:

Canada Safeway does not allow doubling of coupons.

Coupon Stacking:

Canada Safeway does not allow a customer to redeem more than one manufacturer coupons against the same item in a single transaction.

Coupon stacking policies for manufacturer coupons apply to paper and electronic coupons that have been loaded to a club card.

Purchases made with any other tender are covered for 30 days.

How does Price Protection Plus work?

Option 1: Come in.

  • Bring in a copy of a Canadian retailer’s advertisement with an identical item advertised for less to one of our sales associates in store. Once they verify the details, we’ll match their price, then beat the difference by 10%.
  • If you have already purchased the item at Sears, bring in a copy of a Canadian retailer’s advertisement with an identical item advertised for less and your original Sears receipt to one of our sales associates in store. Once they verify the details, we’ll refund the difference plus give you an extra 10% of the difference.

Option 2: Call in.

  • Call 1-800-26SEARS with the url and page of a Canadian retailer’s website where the exact same item is found. Once the Customer Support associate verifies the details, we’ll match their price and beat the difference by 10%.

Buy One Get One Free (BOGO) Coupons:

  • BOGO coupons cannot be combined (i.e. you cannot use two BOGO coupons on two items and get both for free). Unless stated otherwise on the coupon, the use of one BOGO coupon requires that two valid items be presented at checkout. The full retail price of one item will be charged to the guest and the second item will be discounted by its full retail price.
  • A second cents-off coupon of the same type cannot be redeemed toward the purchase price of the first item.
  • If any Target BOGO coupon is used, one additional manufacturer coupon may be used on the first item.
  • If any manufacturer BOGO coupon is used, one additional Target coupon may be used on the first item.

Returns:

Price Match Guarantee

If you buy a qualifying item at a Target store then we’ll match the price if you find the identical item for less in the current or following week’s Target flyer or any competitor’s local printed flyer. Price match may be requested at Guest Services prior to your purchase with proof of current lower price or by bringing in your original Target store receipt and proof of the current lower price.

Price Match Guarantee: The Details

  • The item must be the identical item, brand name, size, weight, colour, quantity and model number.
  • A printed copy of the competitor’s flyer must be provided to Guest Services (no photocopies or flyers printed from online).
  • The competitor’s price and flyer must be valid at the time the price match is requested
  • Competitor catalogues can be matched as long as the catalogue displays a current date, retail price and meets all other competitor ad match qualifications.
  • If item is not available in a Target store, a rain check will not be issued to match the competitor’s print ad.
  • We reserve the right to verify a competitor’s advertised price and the availability of the item.

Price Match Guarantee: Exclusions

Competitor Exclusions:

  • Prices from other Target stores, including Target US and CityTarget.
  • Online prices, including Target.com and competitor websites.

Price Exclusions:

  • Clearance, closeout, damaged product, used, refurbished, open packages or liquidation sales.
  • Prices advertised only as a percent off or dollar off.
  • Paid membership club or paid loyalty programs (e.g. prices that require a club or loyalty card that is associated with a membership fee).
  • Free product promotions, buy one, get one, bundled offers, or special purchases if the retail price is not shown in the advertisement.
  • Competitor coupon-required, including mobile coupons.
  • Competitor price matches on items where Target or the competitor is offering a free gift card.
  • Mail-in offers or instant rebates.
  • Sales tax promotions.
  • Offers that include financing.

Ad Exclusions:

  • Items advertised as limited time/limited supply/limited quantity.
  • Pricing or typographical errors.

Item Exclusions:

  • Non-branded items (e.g., produce not marketed under a specific brand name).
  • Product services (warranties, service plans, assembly, etc.).
  • Display merchandise, used or previously owned items.
  • Damaged product or opened packaging.
  • Target Mobile offers, including Contract cell phone plans and devices.

All matches are done against pre-tax prices; guest is responsible for applicable taxes. Target may modify these terms at any time.

What do you mean by local retail competitors?

This refers to retail stores located within the same market area as a particular Target store. Examples of a market area can be a city, a metropolitan area or a specific rural region.

What qualifies as proof of a price?

Please show us the entire printed advertisement. Photos, photocopies, or mobile phone versions of the ad cannot be accepted as verification of a competitor’s printed ad.

Can I use a coupon when price matching?

A guest can use coupons when price matching per Target’s normal coupon policy. When the guest presents a coupon(s), these steps will be followed:

  • Manufacturer coupons: Manufacturer coupons: manufacturer coupons will be applied after the price match is made.
  • Target coupons: Target coupons will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target coupon has been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor’s
  • Combining both Target and manufacturer coupons: the Target coupon will be applied before the price match is made. If the competitor price is still lower than the price after the Target coupon has been deducted, the ad match can be adjusted to match the competitor’s price. Once the price match is made the manufacturer coupon will be applied.
  • Reminder: we accept one manufacturer coupon and one Target coupon for the same item unless either coupon prohibits it. Target does not ad match a competitor’s coupon-required offers.

In such cases, we’ll issue you a rain check (at your request) so you may buy the item at the advertised price when it becomes available.
