SaveaLoonie Shopping Trips – August 5th
It has been a fun weekend for shopping! We were only after one big score but man oh man did we ever SCORE!!
We had a bunch of family up visiting this weekend and we all wanted to take advantage of the Nestea FPC deal. So 4 of us took off shopping on Friday and wound up bringing home a total of 34 cases of Nestea!
We all started at Walmart and each bought a “Starter” case with the FPC inside. Unfortunately, those were the only specially marked cases in the place. So we grabbed them up and headed to Shoppers Drug Mart. They only had 5 cases at SDM so we each grabbed one. There was another lady standing in line who spotted us each with a case. She commented that Iced Tea must be on sale. I explained the offer to her and she went and grabbed the last case!
After SDM, we went to No Frills. They had 15 or so cases but most of them were on the top shelf. We grabbed the few cases we could and at the checkout I asked the cashier if she could get someone to get them down for us. She VERY rudely replied that she would only get them down if we were actually going to pay for them. So we went back in and my sister-in-law actually wound up having to scale one of the shelves to get 4 more cases down. We went through a different cashier for the second transaction. After that we left with the remaining cases still on the shelf.
Our final stop was Rexall. I couldn’t believe how many of the specially marked cases we found! We found the manager and explained what we were doing. He was great and had absolutely no problem but explained that they had a 6 per customer limit but that was more than enough for us! Between the 4 of us we grabbed another 18 cases. It seemed like a nasty cashier kinda day because even though the manager didn’t seem to have a problem this young cashier did. We offered her a free cases for her patience and instead of either graciously accepting or declining she instead replied “No I don’t want any but I’m sure there are other people that would”. Don’t get me wrong. I can completely understand where she was coming from but we weren’t doing anything wrong. We were obeying store policy and not abusing the coupon. I also explained to her that the majority of it was being donated. She did lighten up a little more closer to the end but nonetheless I don’t think the hostility was necessary. Besides we left well over 30 marked cases there!
That being said we were all so excited to come home with our scores! Each of us took 5 cases for our own supplies and the remaining is all being donated to our nephews sports teams! It was so much fun being out with family, getting freebies and donating all at the same time!
These are the bins of cans we donated to the boys’ teams.

In total with everything we paid and all we got for free this is how the breakdown looks:
Retail Value: $254.66
OOP: $13.32
Savings Of: $241.34 ~ 95%

Well I went shopping today and even though some of the items on my list...
It's time for another coupon insert preview!
This sometime this week/weekend you can...
you know how much sugar is in each one of those cans? i wouldn’t take those if they were giving it away for free.
Nestea Zero has zero sugar.
Its early…but how did you do it then. Bought first specialy marked box for free case. Took out coupon and used it to get another free and so forth….but how did you do this in the store mulitable times with the coupons still in the boxes? Did you just tell the cashier to open each to remove the coupons? If so did they give you a hard time that it was ment for future purchases??? Thanks for all the info
We purchased our first case, went out to the truck and emptied the box. We cut the coupon out then went back in. Each was considered a separate purchase.
So, when you bought the 18 cases at Rexall, you went out to the truck each time?
Yes. The 4 of us all went in, grabbed a case, took it to the till, then out to the truck and repeat
Thanks
Hi, i read your blog occasionally and i own a siilmar one and i was just curious if you get a lot of spam feedback? If so how do you prevent it, any plugin or anything you can recommend? I get so much lately it’s driving me mad so any support is very much appreciated.Welcome to my site :
When we buy our newspaper with the copuons, do you file the entire coupon sections, instead of cutting out all the copuons? And if so, how do you file/save them? File cabinet or box? File folders? If you have already written about this, please direct me to the link and I’ll gladly check it out.
Pure greed is what this is. Its amazing how everyone bitches and complains about shelf clearing, store hopping ect and thats exackly what you have done. PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH… Makes me sick
We didn’t clear shelves. We left some behind at every store (with the exception of Walmart because they were only 4). It’s not greed when the lot of it is being split between FOUR families as well as an 18 case donation to sports teams.
If you actually read the post you would understand exactly what happened. Thanks for your comment though.
I think your just jealous that they were able to pull it off! Cuz you can’t tell me that you wouldn’t do it too if you could! Cuz I would if I could !!
My hat goes off to savealoonie!!!
I did the same GT was fine with it if anything wow-ed by it, sobeys and loblaws limited me to 2 rounds. But with that great deals and all the stores we can go to who cares.
Ok I still don’t guite understand. I saw a box which said with every purchase you get one free. So when you went back in the store with 4 coupons you still had to buy 4 boxes right. Or am I missing something. Buy the way I love your sight and I’m still learning all about the couponing rules. And freebies. Your doing great!!! Thank you for all your time and help
I don’t think what you did was ‘hoarding’, especially if you donated so much. I did similar. I am having several pool parties this year, so I bought 4 cases, and looked for the specially marked ones, knowing that next week I will use the coupons to get 4 free cases. I price matched the ice tea at Fresh Co. and got each case for $2.88(Food Basics flyer price).
Interesting read. Coupon usage had a drastic inrcsaee in 2010 and is continuing to do so even as we approach post-recession this year according to Coupon Statistics at Inmar Research. This year will definitely bring newer coupon methods making them available for consumers in a convenient fashion, much like the recent innovations.
Donna it’s just a free case of Nestea, you do not have to buy another in order to use the coupon. What you do is go into the store, buy one case, then come out and take the coupon off the box and go back in to get another box with the FPC on it. Pretend you did this 3 times, you get 3 cases of Nestea but only had to buy your first one. Each case after that is only tax (if applicable) and deposit.
Bravo!!! I love that you could supply the team with tea instead of soda and have family drinks as well.
One of our fav tips is saving all of the little soaps and shampoos from hotel room and donating them to a homeless shelter. They use them in their showers. We also donate food products. I’ll try to score some tea for them also. Well Done again for the tea score!!
No, the tax is actually included. Says right on the coupon that retailer will be reimbursed for tax. You shouldn’t be paying taxes on these cases.
Extreme Couponing has absolutely inlfneuced these changes. It doesn’t impact me directly as I refuse to purchase coupons, but it is scary to see the first example of companies cracking down due to this unrealistic show. I am also afraid that these changes will impact those of us who do strictly get our coupons from newspapers. The grocery stores do not babysit their newspaper racks, and I can’t tell you how many times I have gone to pick up a newspaper only to find that the inserts have been stolen. Personally, I would love the option to subscribe to ONLY inserts, so I could just get them in the mail for a small cost (legitimately from the companies themselves, not a coupon service).
It’s a great deal! My family “bought” 9 case in total from different grocery stores. But I was charged recycling fee for 2 cent/bottle at superstore. And manager at superstore did not convince recycling fee is tax. But the cashier lady in Safewaybis SUPER NICE, she is telling everyone who is buying the special box of nested to come back for another free case; and it is literally free! No tax, no recycling fee, nothing!
Did this today at Zehrs!
Once people in the store started to see what I was doing they started to join in, and after a while the WHOLE store was out of Nestea and the manager came and thanked me for all of the business I created (since the store ends up getting the coupon value back) and he gave me a $20 gift card!
In the end I got 34 cases for $5.99 + a $20 gift card!
Wow!
So glad to see that you have donated most of it and not hoarded it
This is soo funny, but awesome !! I planned this big score out in my head… I went to three Super store’s, Walmart’s and Safeways, no Ice tea left with coupons…will have to get some next ek when they restock. In Alberta we pay the gst and the bottle deposit…it works out to be like $.1.30 per case. Great deal, and for every case i get for the family I donate one to the local food bank!
Suggestion: If A product is free, with a coupon..why not create an “Alert tab” so people will know that it is free if you print a coupon or have a coupon..
I grabbed 9 cases this past week-end as i was in Ontario. No tax, no charge for refund so it was all free minus the first purchase of $2.88. In Quebec i would of been out the the refund charge. I am donating half as it’s the best feeling to do. But i would like to know if anyone would know when this promotion will be coming to an end? I know when the coupon lasts till but i wonder when the cases will stop having the coupon in the box itself. I would like to go back to Ontario this week-end and get more to donate. Thanks
This has been going on for over a month here in Southern Ontario. It first started on Nestea Cool and I had never seen it on the others until about a week ago. Now it is on Nestea, Nestea Zero, Nestea Green Tea, and Nestea Green Tea Zero.
I went to the store and could only find these promotional coupons on boxes of Nestea Green tea and they can only be redeemed for Nestle Iced Tea varieties…..still a good deal but not as good as yours!
