SaveaLoonie Shopping Trips – April 20 & 21

It’s been a great weekend for shopping! We’ve been out the last 2 days scoring deals like crazy :D

Yesterday, I planned out a big shopping list and had planned out a pretty significant score at Walmart and No Frills but things didn’t go exactly as planned and we wound up having to go to No Frills today. So we headed off to Walmart and began our shop. It was pretty busy in the store but we managed to navigate pretty easily. I had planned to price match many of the deals from No Frills at Walmart but they didn’t have almost any of them and they were even out of stock on a couple of their own deals :( I figured this wasn’t such a big deal as I was still able to get many of the things I was after and could just go to No Frills to get the rest. There was even a couple bonuses at Walmart, first all of the Fantastik and Scrubbing Bubbles triggers I purchased had an additional peelie for $1.00 off attached :) And I found Royale Grande Facial Tissue on sale so I finally found the perfect time to use my BOGO. So after loading all of the items in our cart we headed off to checkout. When we got in line a woman filed in behind us and I told her we would likely be a while as I had lots of coupons and price matching. She said she didn’t mind she was actually interested to learn so we chatted as we rang things through.

Also, while doing our checkout I looked beside us and there was another couponer with an EXTREME HAUL! I mean she had to have atleast 10 of everything I could see. I struck up a conversation with her and asked if she had ever visited SaL. She said she had! Imagine that :) But after a little more conversation she mentioned she had 9 children! Well all the power to ya and congratulations on your couponing success! And if your out there, do tell, what was your OOP? I’m dying to know ;)

But back to our shop :) Things got a little wonky at the cash register while I was chatting and did wind up being charged full price for an item I didn’t even purchase :( It seems lately I can’t get out of that place with a correct checkout. Shame on me! I vow to stare that display screen down like a hawk next time! But even with that error aside this is what we managed to score:

5 x Irish Spring Body Wash (PM Giant Tiger) $2.99 – $2.00 = $0.99ea
4 x Fantastik Triggers (PM Giant Tiger) $1.99 – BOGO – 2x $1.00 = $0.49ea
2 x Fantastik Tiggers (PM Giant Tiger) $1.99 – $1.00 – $1.00 = +$0.02
4 x Scrubbing Bubbles Shower Foamer (PM Giant Tiger) $2.98 – BOGO = $1.49ea
2 x Scrubbing Bubbles Triggers (PM Giant Tiger) $2.98 – $1.00 – $1.00 = $0.98ea
2 x Scrubbing Bubbles Colour Technology Shower Foamer $3.98 – Free WUB Trigger = FREE
4 x Royale Grande Facial Tissue $1.87 – BOGO = $0.93ea
2 x Nutri Grain Bars $2.00 – $1.00 = $1.00ea
4 x Bull’s Eye BBQ Sauce (PM Independent) $1.99 – BOGO = $0.99ea
1 x Cashmere Toilet Paper (PM Foodland) $3.97 – $2.00 = $1.97
2 x John Frieda Precision Foam Hair Colour $12.97 – FPC = FREE
1 x Liberte Greek Yogurt $4.97 – FPC = FREE
2 x M&M’s Peanut $0.75 – FPC = FREE
2 x Shirriff Mousse $1.87 – FPC = FREE
1 x Smart Food Popcorn $3.27 – FPC = FREE
1 x Doritos $3.17 – FPC = FREE
+ Fantastik I didn’t buy @ $3.27

Total Retail: $154.87
Walmart Gift Cards: – $20.00
OOP: $3.90 ~ Savings 98% WOOOOOO!!!
Taxes: $13.94

After Walmart we head over to No Frills. Wasn’t impressed that every single item that was on sale that I wanted (except one) was sold out on the first day of the sale. The associate I spoke with said there would be another shipment tomorrow (Saturday) so we decided to just come back.

Fast forward to today. Instead of going to the same No Frills (we have 2 in town) we went to the other one. I was absolutely THRILLED when every single one of my items was there and lots of them! The cashier asked if she could ring in one item I had an FPC for separately to be sure she included the taxes so I said sure. Funny thing is, there was no tax! This is what we got at No Frills today:

Transaction 1
3 x Triscuits Thin Crisps $2.77 – FPC = FREE
2 x Finish Tabs 15 pack $2.47 – $2.00 = $0.47ea
4 x Gay Lea Spreadables (PM Foodland) $1.99 – $1.00 = $0.99ea
2 x Royale Toilet Paper 40 rolls $5.97 -$2.00 = $3.97ea
10 x Tide To Go Stick $1.99 – $1.00 = $0.99ea

Transaction 2

1 x Tassimo T Disc $10.97 – FPC = FREE

Total Retail: $116.20
OOP: $22.74 ~ Savings 81%
Taxes: $4.78

So with everything combined I must say I am thrilled with my haul and my savings! This is what the final numbers turn out to be:

TOTAL RETAIL: $267.80
OOP: $26.64
SAVINGS OF $241.16 ~ 91%

Very awesome shopping guys! Nice to know at least a few other couponers scored good deals this weekend :)

Just posted a brag about our trips!

Can I just asked a question about your Walmart receipt? We are in Peterborough too and they ask us to do the coupons after every item, how did yours end up at the end?yours

Hey Rebecca! It all depends on the cashier. Usually they do take the coupons with the items but that cashier had a slightly different method. She took the coupons with the products but held them all to be entered at the end. I think its all just a matter of personal preference with the cashier :)

Hmm I like that method actually lol it feels more like “Extreme Couponing” having a monster total going down, down, down :p Back when I first started couponing and did it that way, it was always the most nerve racking having $100′s in total and hoping it worked!

I noticed you were able to “stack” too – don’t know what else to call it -
with the peelies. When I went this morning, they also had peelies on the Windex for $2 WUB1 (separate display in front of the frozen food aisle with veggies in it) …would be a great deal if you still have any BOGO’s to use up! If you can use a BOGO and 2x $2 peelies and PM Loblaws for $2.97, you’ll get an overage if my tired brain isn’t mistaken!

I’m surprised No Frills let you use the Royale toilet paper coupon. The one I had said it was only for 12 or 24 rolls.

My Royale coupon is the same Laurie…my husband is going there today to see if he can use it. Will let you know the results…:)

    • savealoonie

It wasn’t the same coupon you are referring to :) I had 2x $2.00 Off ANY Royale product from a promotion on Facebook/GoCoupons.ca in January (I believe)

I am just curious how long it took you to master couponing. In which I mean, getting the saving of over 80%. I only started a couple months ago, I’m definitely getting better. Especially watching for sales and ad matching. But when I go out, the most I save is on average about 50%. Which honestly isn’t bad, but would love to save more money for sure.

Do you have any tips for me? I do relieve you have been doing it much longer than me, but would love to know how to maximize my couponing. Thanks

  6. Carly

Thats amazing. I just started about a month ago seriously couponing before i just used a coupon every once in a while. Yesterday was my first time really saving and i saved 19%! I was so excited getting four bottles of resolve for freeee :)

  7. erica

how did u get the tassimos fpc?

  8. Susie

How did you avoid paying tax on FPC. I have used a couple in the past and I have ended up paying just the tax, but I see on your receipt, there was no tax added.

Too bad,,,I went to Walmart last night and they won’t allow me to use all my coupon ,they said limit one coupon per transaction, still I didn’t understand how to use all of them in one shopping.

That’s one awesome shopping trip!! OMG!!

I only hope to be like that one day. I tend to focus on the freebies and deals. I am not a huge couponer but am going to start spending more time focusing on it. You prove that it CAN be done.
