Free vs Free with Purchase. Is there a difference? Is one more “Free” than the other?

While some of you would argue that “free with purchase” isn’t really free – I will 100% of the time vehemently disagree with you. Free with purchase is still FREE!

And here is why I say that.

I already know your argument. You’re going to tell me that “if you have to buy something to get something for free it isn’t really free”. That statement in itself is contradictory. The “something for free” part says it all! You are still getting something for free.

If you have to pay shipping – you are STILL GETTING THE PRODUCT FREE. Shipping is an entirely separate cost by an entirely separate company. You’re paying Canada Post/UPS/FedEx or whoever is delivering your goods. The company that is supplying the product is doing so free of charge.

Sure, something that you get 100% free, no-strings-attached may seem “more free” because you didn’t have to put out any more to receive it – doesn’t make the gift with purchase / free+ shipping freebie any less free.

A BOGO FREE Coupon is basically a “free with purchase” coupon. Does that make your free item less free in this circumstance? Is a Free Gift with Purchase promotion somehow less valuable than a BOGO Free product coupon?

It is an incentive, reward or special offer. When a company offers a free gift with purchase, it is still a special offer. On a regular day, if you were to make a purchase from this store/brand/company would you normally get a free item? Do they hand out samples to every customer every day of the week? Probably not.

So when said store/brand/company is offering you a free gift with purchase, would it not make sense that you would want to make your purchase then? I think so! These types of promotions are intended to reward customers who shop with the store/brand/company and to peek interest from potential new customers.

Your free gift can be worth more than your purchase! Often times, especially with cosmetics & skin care companies, the free gift you receive may be more valuable than the purchase you are making!

We are a Savings Website & post ALL offers savings related! You may just be here for the freebies, but SaveaLoonie.com is so much more than that! We post all things savings related – coupons, samples, contests, giveaways, in-store promotions, how-to guides, coupon codes etc. We are here to help you SAVE A LOONIE (or more), however that may be! For some that may mean getting a free gift with a purchase that they were going to make anyways 😉

If you don’t like an offer, just move on. Not every offer is going to be right for every user. It is a waste of your time and mine to write some snarky, off-handed remark about “not really being free” because I’m going to simply send you a link to this article.
