A victory for all women!
Today, May 28th, it was announced that as of July 1st, the federal government will remove the tax on tampons and other feminine hygiene products!
This motion will amend the Excise Tax Act, and remove sanitary napkins, tampons, menstrual cps and other similar items.
Previously, under this act, feminine products were classified as “luxury items” (non-essential to daily life) and therefore taxed GST. But women (and men!) across the country have been arguing that these products ARE essential to women of reproductive age and that the tax unfairly targeted them.
And finally, our voices have been heard!
