Well it’s official.

Canada Post has issued the required 72 hour lockout notice to the union. This means effective Friday, the work stoppage could be in place 🙁 :'(

Now, Canada Post has said the notice doesn’t necessarily mean they will shut down entirely, but rather “take measures that are necessary to respond to the changing business reality.” Whatever that means.

However, in the event of a full work stoppage – Canada Post will stop all mail & parcel delivery and it will accept no new items.

That being said – Canada Revenue Agency has mandated that Old Age Security, Canada Pension Plan, Working Income Tax Benefit and the Canada Child Benefit cheques will be delivered even during the stoppage.

If the work disruption should be long term, there is an agreement with CP and the union where delivery would occur one day per month to ensure these socio-economic cheques reach their recipients.

The last time there was a work stoppage in 2011, there were 10 days of rotating strikes & a lockout before Ottawa implemented a back to work mandate.
